Melissa is a committed practitioner of mindfulness meditation. In 2023, interested in reaching adults who might best be served by a nonsectarian, evidence based approach, she began teacher training in MBSR. She has completed extensive training through Brown University's Mindfulness Center/School of Professional Studies and is a Level 1 qualified teacher of MBSR.
She is a public school teacher with over 25 years of experience in Minnesota. She is qualified to teach students in grades K-12 mindfulness through Mindful Schools. She has experience in teaching mindfulness to students in elementary and high school.
Her own mindfulness practice has been foundational in her work, her family life, and in all aspects of her life. Melissa believes mindfulness can inspire individuals to trust their own body wisdom, goodness, and wholeness, discovering ways to respond to stress with their inner resources that lead to increasing vitality and joy. She especially holds parents, educators, and those who are grieving a significant loss dear to her heart.

I am deeply grateful for the meditation class you offered. As someone who had never meditated before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I joined with curiosity but was also unsure if I’d feel out of place or struggle to connect with the practice.
From the very beginning, your warm and welcoming presence created a space that felt safe and inclusive. Your leadership was gentle yet grounded. I never felt judged or behind — only supported.
Through the sessions, I began to truly notice my mind and how it responds to stress. I became more aware of my physical reactions to adversity, and my reaction patterns I hadn’t recognized before. Most importantly, I learned how to pause. To stop, breathe, and ask myself what I’m feeling — and then respond with more clarity and compassion, both toward myself and those around me.
This class didn’t just introduce me to meditation; it gave me tools I now carry into my daily life. It’s helped me feel more present, more patient, and more connected. Thank you for creating such a meaningful experience. I’m grateful for the care you put into every session and for the impact it’s had on me.
The MBSR class offered by Melissa deepened and broadened my meditation practice considerably. I appreciated the experiential nature and variety of meditation practices. I also found the ways of noticing my thoughts as well as ways to deal with pain and difficult conversations very helpful. Even though the group was by zoom, I was surprised by how close we all became and how open participants were about their struggles and triumphs. It’s truly amazing how much growth can happen in 8 weeks!
Thank You Melissa!

The classes were well structured and allowed the student / practitioner to learn new valuable tool for mindfulness. Each “lesson /session” was taught in a format that met the student/ practitioner at their level from novice/ intermediate or well seasoned. The class was taught with compassion and sincere kindness for the fellow mindfulness traveler. You owe it to yourself to invest in these mindfulness tools presented in this course.
Not knowing exactly what to expect from a virtual mindfulness course I was pleasantly surprised at how the sessions could provide a deeper insight into MBSR.
